Getting Started with the New Chat Screen

A walkthrough of the New Chat screen, covering the chat input, scoping a question with Add Data and analysis types, connecting your data, starting from a template, the navigation sidebar, and what to do next.

Overview

The New Chat screen is where you start every analysis in Sona. It is your central hub for asking questions about your data in plain language, connecting your tools, and launching pre-built templates. Sona captures first-party behavioral signals to power attribution, enrichment, and AI-driven workflows, and the New Chat screen is where you put that data to work. Use it to ask a question, choose the dataset to analyze, connect new sources, or start from a ready-made template.

The chat input

At the center of the screen is the main chat input, a text field with the placeholder "Analyze and visualize trends and patterns in the data...". Type your question or request here in natural language, then press the send button, the arrow icon on the right, to submit it. For example:

  • "Which accounts should I focus on this week?"

  • "Show me a breakdown of accounts by buying stage."

  • "What campaigns are driving the most conversions?"

Tip: the more specific your question, the more focused Sona's answer. Name the metric, segment, or time window you care about.

Scoping your question

Two controls beside the input let you tell Sona exactly what to analyze before you send a question:

  • Add Data: the dropdown to the left of the input. Use it to select or attach the specific datasets you want Sona to reference when answering.

  • Analysis type: the Identified Accounts dropdown. Click it to choose which dataset Sona analyzes from the options below.

The analysis type options are:

  • Identified Accounts: analyze accounts that have been identified and matched in your data.

  • Intent Signals: focus on accounts showing buying intent based on behavioral signals.

  • Web Visitors: analyze traffic and engagement from visitors to your website.

  • Revenue Attribution: understand which channels and campaigns are driving revenue.

  • Marketing Influence: measure how marketing touchpoints influence deal progression.

  • Sales Prioritization: identify which accounts your sales team should focus on next.

Tip: pick the analysis type that best fits your question, and Sona tailors its response to that dataset.

Connecting your data

Below the chat input is a banner that reads "Connect your data to analyze." Clicking it opens a modal with two tabs, Data Connectors and Tracking Pixel.

The Data Connectors tab is where you link the tools and platforms your team uses every day. Sona supports a wide range of connectors:

  • HubSpot: CRM and marketing automation data.

  • Salesforce: CRM and sales pipeline data.

  • Facebook Ads: ad performance and audience data.

  • Google Ads: campaign and keyword performance.

  • Google Drive: documents and files.

  • Microsoft Advertising: ad campaign data.

  • Slack: team communication data.

  • Google Spreadsheets: custom data from spreadsheets.

To connect a platform, click its icon in the banner or go to Data > Data Connectors in the left sidebar, where you can connect new accounts or manage existing ones. Each connector shows your currently linked accounts and lets you Connect New Accounts at any time.

Tip: the more data sources you connect, the richer and more accurate your insights will be.

The Tracking Pixel tab installs a JavaScript snippet on your website to track anonymous visitors, so you can identify companies and individuals visiting your site before they fill out a form or otherwise identify themselves. To install it:

  1. Switch to the Tracking Pixel tab in the data connection modal.

  2. Copy the JavaScript snippet using the Copy to Clipboard button.

  3. Paste the snippet between the <head> and </head> tags of your website.

Note: once the pixel is installed, Sona begins capturing anonymous visitor data that you can use in your analyses and account prioritization.

Starting from a template

If you are not sure where to begin, Sona provides ready-made templates to help you hit the ground running. A few appear on the main screen, and you can click Show More to browse the full list. Each template is a question you can run in one click, such as:

  • "Which accounts should I prioritize this week based on ICP fit and intent?": focus on your highest-value opportunities by combining fit and intent signals.

  • "Show high ICP-fit accounts with rising engagement in the last 7 days.": spot ideal customers that are gaining momentum right now.

  • "Which accounts look ready for outbound but don't have a CRM owner?": find unassigned accounts that are primed for outreach.

Click a template card to load it into the chat and get instant results.

The navigation sidebar

The menu on the left side of the screen moves you between the main areas of Sona:

  • New Chat: start a fresh analysis conversation.

  • Search Chat: find and revisit previous conversations.

  • Playbooks: access saved workflows and strategic playbooks.

  • Onboarding: continue or revisit your onboarding setup.

  • Insights: view automated insights and trends.

  • Accounts: browse and manage your account lists.

  • People: explore contact-level data.

  • Data: manage your data connectors and sources.

  • Account: adjust your account and billing settings.

  • Workspace Settings: configure workspace-level preferences.

  • Workflows: set up automated workflows.

Tip: at the bottom of the sidebar you will also find Feature Demos, Help & Support, and Account Settings for quick access.

  2. Try a template: click one of the suggested templates to see Sona in action.

  3. Ask your first question: type a question in the chat input and see what Sona can do.

FAQs

What is the New Chat screen for?

The New Chat screen is the starting point for analyzing your data in Sona. You ask questions in plain language and Sona answers using the first-party behavioral data it captures, along with any sources you connect. From the same screen you can scope which dataset to analyze, connect new tools, and launch pre-built templates, so it works as the central hub for attribution, enrichment, and AI-driven workflows.

Do I need to connect data before I can ask a question?

You can start typing questions right away, but Sona's answers are only as rich as the data it can draw on. Connecting at least one source, or installing the tracking pixel, gives Sona the behavioral and CRM data it needs to return meaningful results. Use the Connect your data to analyze banner below the chat input to link your first source.

What is the difference between Add Data and the analysis type dropdown?

Add Data attaches specific datasets you want Sona to reference for a question, such as a connected source or an uploaded file. The analysis type dropdown, labeled Identified Accounts by default, sets the lens Sona applies, for example Intent Signals, Web Visitors, or Revenue Attribution. Use Add Data to control what Sona looks at, and the analysis type to control how it frames the answer.

What does the Tracking Pixel do?

The Tracking Pixel is a JavaScript snippet you install between the <head> and </head> tags of your website. Once in place, it captures anonymous visitors, letting Sona identify the companies and individuals browsing your site before they fill out a form. That visitor data then feeds your analyses and account prioritization on the New Chat screen.
