When to use Alerts

Use Alerts when:

  • You want your sales or marketing team to be instantly notified of high-intent actions.

  • You are actively using intent signals and filtered views to identify key visitors or accounts.

Prerequisites:

  • Slack integration must be connected via the Connectors page.

  • At least one Intent Signal and Filtered View or Audience should be created in your account.

Step 1: access the Alerts page

Navigate to the Alerts section from your Sona workspace.

Step 2: create or manage an alert

  • To create a new alert, click New Alert at the bottom of the list.

  • To remove an alert, click the minus (-) icon next to the alert you wish to delete.

Step 3: choose alert type

When setting up a new alert, select whether it applies to Web Visitors (identified users) or Accounts (company-level tracking).

Step 4: target the right group

In the alert setup screen, choose a Filtered View or Audience that includes the visitors or accounts you want alerts for.

Step 5: set the intent signal

Select an existing Intent Signal, or click Create Intent Signal to define a new one based on your tracking strategy.

Step 6: select a Slack channel

Choose the Slack channel where you want the alert to be delivered.

Step 7: save the alert

  • Click Save Alert to activate it.

  • Or click Cancel to discard your changes and return to the Alerts page.

Step 8: add the Sona Slack application to the selected Slack channel

  1. In Slack, select the channel where you want to add the Sona Slack application.

  2. Type /add, then select Add app to this channel.

  3. Select the Sona Slack application.

You have now added the Sona Slack application, and you will see alerts published as they become available.

Key concepts and best practices

  • Keep It Relevant: avoid alert fatigue by only creating alerts for high-value signals and audiences.

  • Align Alerts to Workflows: send account-based alerts to sales reps or BDR Slack channels, and send visitor-level alerts to marketing teams.

  • Use Naming Conventions: for example, High Intent: Enterprise Accounts or Engaged Visitor: Pricing Page.

FAQs

What does a Sona Alert do?

A Sona Alert notifies your team in Slack in real time when visitors or accounts match an intent signal within a filtered view or audience you define. This lets your sales or marketing team act quickly on engagement without needing to constantly check dashboards.

What do I need before I can create an alert?

You need Slack connected via the Connectors page, plus at least one Intent Signal and a Filtered View or Audience already created in your account. You can also create a new Intent Signal directly from the alert setup screen if one does not exist yet.

Why am I not seeing alerts in my Slack channel?

Saving an alert in Sona does not automatically add the Sona Slack application to your channel. In Slack, open the target channel, type /add, select Add app to this channel, and choose the Sona Slack application. Alerts will then start appearing as they become available.
